Sales Copy WritingThere could be something more important than compelling sales copy for your website. But I'll be darned if I know what it is. May I tell you a story? At the end, I believe you will see the relevance. The Woodcutter's BetThere were two Swedish men who set off one cold winter's morning to a nearby woodlot to cut firewood. As men will, they began bragging about what great axeman and woodcutters they were. This quickly led to a bet on who could cut the most wood for the day. Arriving at the woodlot, our two woodcutters were soon hard at work. Their coats came off, chips flew in all directions! The cut and split wood started piling up. The two men, however, had very different working styles. The first woodsman plowed ahead, stopping for nothing. He was a large, strong man, used to overcoming all obstacles. Yes, he knew he was tiring, but he was DETERMINED to win at all costs. The second woodcutter took frequent breaks, sitting off by himself. He did not come over to brag or boast to the other man, as some men would. He had every reason to brag, because, despite these breaks, his woodpile slowly but surely grew larger than that of his competitor. Finally, evening cameThe results, although unbelievable, were there in plain sight. The second woodsman, with all of his rest breaks, had cut twice as much wood as the first. They stopped at the local inn to "pay off the bet" before going home. The second woodsman, all this time, had said not a word about his winning. Finally, the first woodsman could stand it no more. He burst out: "I do NOT understand. I am bigger and stronger than you. I never stopped the entire day. Yet you cut twice as much wood as I did. How did you do this? Draining his beer, the second, winning woodcutter looked at him and smiled. "Jah, you are bigger and stronger than I am. You worked twice as hard." "BUT, everytime I stopped for a break, I was sharpening my axe". How sharp is YOUR axe? Does your website work hard or smart? |
