The Neglected Internal LinkA little known fact of search engine positioning or optimizing is that the major search engines also give some weight (not a lot, but some) to your INTERNAL LINKS. This is a totally free and simple opportunity to increase the value of your links! The best and easiest example I could give you would be the classic link, "home". OK, you've seen how many of those? 10,000 by now? On my site, http://www.trafficjon.com, look on the home page. My link to my index page reads: "TrafficJon Home". Now, "trafficjon" doesn't have a lot of link value. However, this link has good search engine value: Search Engine Optimisation I gain two ways. 1. The words are part of a hyperlink on my site, which gives them a very high value on Google, AOL, and Yahoo. 2. They also are links to pages on my site, which gives the site a second small boost in search engine value. Some other possibilities are the "site map" and the "links" pages. See if there isn't some word or phrase that's relevant to your website that you can add to those links, so that they say something like "marketing site map" or "baseball card site map", "investment links" or "ebook links". Now, it IS also important not to break the flow and the
link wording must "make sense", However, even Try this yourself. Edit a couple of your internal links. In a month or so, see if your Google Page Rank hasn't snuck up a point. |
